Green Valley Model United Nations 2024 (GVMUN 2024) was held at Green Valley Educational Institute from 30th August to 1st September, marking a prestigious event that brought together students from various schools to engage in intellectual debates, discussions, and diplomacy. The three-day conference aimed to provide young delegates with an opportunity to step into the shoes of diplomats and world leaders, learning the intricacies of international relations and problem-solving on a global scale.
The event was inaugurated on 30th August with a grand opening ceremony, where Mr. Syed Aga Ruhulla Mehdi, a sitting Member of Parliament, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. His inspiring words encouraged the participants to take the opportunity seriously and to contribute meaningfully to the discussions that lay ahead. He emphasized the importance of diplomacy, leadership, and the role of young minds in shaping the future of global governance.
Following the opening ceremony, the students were divided into various committees, each representing different portfolios. The committees for GVMUN 2024 included UNHRC, JKPPM, UNW, UNSC, AIPPM.
Students from numerous reputed schools, including RP School Malabagh, RP School Lawaypora, Foundation World School, Presentation Convent School, Delhi Public School (Srinagar and Budgam), Imamia High School Ladakh, Tyndale Biscoe School, and others, represented countries and organizations within these committees. Each student was assigned a specific role, and the debates that followed were intense, thoughtful, and insightful. The chairs and core committee members expertly guided the sessions, ensuring that the debates remained productive and aligned with the goals of the United Nations.
Throughout the event, the delegates discussed pressing global issues, proposed resolutions, and engaged in negotiations that simulated real-world diplomatic processes. The committees covered topics ranging from gender equality, human rights violations, international security, business policies, and regional governance. The well-organized sessions provided a structured environment where students could articulate their thoughts and challenge each other’s perspectives in a respectful manner.
The event concluded with a closing ceremony on 1st September, where Mr. Peerzada Ashiq, Senior Journalist and Editor at The Hindu, was the Chief Guest. He addressed the gathering with a motivating speech, appreciating the students’ efforts and emphasizing the importance of youth engagement in political and social discourse. During the ceremony, students were also felicitated for their exceptional performance in the various committees, recognizing their hard work and diplomatic skills. The event was a grand success, leaving a lasting impact on both the participants and the audience.
